Really looking forward to tomorrow

I’m watching an old episode of Time Team and it’s very apt as I’m going up Leckhampton Hill tomorrow to do some geo-physics. I’m really looking forward to it too. There is an Iron Age Hill Fort up there and Maisie and myself could find something new! You never know, we could be ground breaking :) The bit that Maisie doesn’t like is that we’re walking there and it’s almost 6 miles away. We’re going to start out early though and take it slowly, I want to take a load of photos on the way as well as when we get there. So, watch this space! Will I find anything??

Films and IMDB

Sometimes films make me want to look at IMDB to see what others think of it. The Squid And The Whale was one of these. I hated this film, it was hugely pretentious and certain parts (you’ll know which parts if you’ve seen it) made me feel almost like a paedophile, which is never a good thing. Everyone who reviewed it on IMDB seemed to be just as pretentious as the film and the whole thing really irked me.

One thing I really don’t get about IMDB reviewers however, is that they say films aren’t true to life. Isn’t that one of the points about films?? That they are a bit of escapism from real life? Last night I watched Lars And The Real Girl which I loved. Just a story of a few months in the life of the people in a small town somewhere in America (or possibly Canada). Obviously this isn’t a normal few months otherwise it would probably make a slightly boring film. This morning I went onto IMDB to see what others thought about it and they said it was silly and not true to life. Of course it wasn’t true to life you idiots!!! The human race probably isn’t that nice!!! There is a tiny little part of me that likes to think it could, or possibly has happened. I’m sure it has, not unnecessarily with exactly the same subject matter (doll), but I’m sure there are towns and villages everywhere that have helped a person through some horrible time in their life like they did in this film.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about then I suggest you watch this film, it was great.

Flesh and gentle

Summer has arrived and this can only mean one thing! Too much bare flesh! As I walked round town (with a full length skirt and long line vest on I hasten to add) I saw many blindingly white, scrawny men with no tops on and far too many size 18+ girls with teeny weeny skirts and crop tops on. Surely there should be a law against such things. I’m wondering if they think that by wearing ginormous jewellery we will not see their second arse and spare tyre lolloping over their far too tight skirts/shorts.

The sight of such atrocities cannot dampen my spirits though as i have found wonderous new beauty products from Hand Made Naturals. I have been suffering from quite bad skin for some time now (one of the many reasons I try not to show too much of it) and it seems that there is an ingredient in a lot of beauty products that is BAD. This ingredient is Sodium Laurel Sulphate and it is in everything, even things that claim to be gentle on the skin. So I did a search for SLS free stuff and found the afore mentioned site. I have been using the facial wash, toner and moisturiser for about 3 weeks and the skin on my face is so lovely now, no redness or soreness. But today I tried their shampoo and conditioner. I was actually quite nervous about this, because I really wanted it to work. Thing is that I have waist length hair that knots VERY easily so normally I can go through 3 times as much conditioner than shampoo. I washed my hair, not too many bubbles but apparently that’s to be expected from natural shampoo. Then I nervously put on the conditioner which is more of a lotion than a cream. I put it on little by little as suggested and I have to say that I didn’t think much of it to begin with. Then I washed it out (after 5 mins) and my fingers just ran straight through my hair!!! This has never happened before so I was seriously happy, and I didn’t use that much of it. Funny thing is that my face and hair have never actually felt so clean. None of the products smell ‘pretty’ but they do smell nice and my skin loves me for using them right now. I’m going to try the shower gel next!

search and demise

Well, I’ve just been playing with this site and I have found that you can see how people have got to your page. Apparently the general public can get to may page by entering these words into their search engine, ‘hot girls showing it all.’ Of course I had to try it and on about page 21 of the search there I was! Along with ‘hot girls pissing’, ‘hot ‘n’ horny’ and other such lovely ladies! How proud I am to be moving in such circles.

In other news, two of my longest serving possessions have passed away :( My Clairol 1200 watt hairdryer has died after 20 years of service! My daddy bought it for me for my 16th birthday. I now have a pink, £5 jobby from the shop over the road. It’s nowhere near as good if only because it has quite a short flex. Secondly (and most upsettingly) my DM’s have bitten the dust. The back seam has split, the loop to help me pull them on has come off and there is almost no tread on them. These lasted me for 17 years and you can’t buy ones like mine any more :( They are (were) purple with squared off toes! I have handed the laces down to Maisie and I am finding it hard to part with them. Would it be wrong to use them as some kind of ornament? People have urns on their fireplaces, so I can’t see why I can’t have my much loved DM’s on display…

Turquoisegirl does Top Gear (in a motorbike kinda way)

My bike
Well I have had my Sanya 125 motorcycle for a few months now and I thought it was about time I told you all about it. It is a Chinese import that my brother-in-law had to put the front end on and I had to register myself. I bought it from ebay for £499, delivery was £85 and I bought a helmet, top box and a lock for £60 from the same shop. Registration cost £60, tax £15, number plate £20, insurance £175 and a full tank of petrol £12!!

So for £926 I had a brand new motorbike on the road. I had to ride it from the Forest of Dean to my house, that was a good run for the bike and for me seeing as I hadn’t ridden one for 10 years. I pitied the people behind me as I could only go 30mph because the bike needs to be run in for 1,000 miles. It got me home though with no problems. Since then I have been riding it round town and to and from work. It needs a lot of choke on these chilly mornings and I keep on forgetting it won’t start while the side stand is down (this seems to be a new thing on bikes that happened in the ten years I haven’t ridden). Once it has warmed up though it rides very well. I am just about getting used to the indicator beep, when I first rode it it seemed really loud as indicators don’t normally beep on bikes. I can do 200 miles on one tank of petrol which as I said cost £12 and it has a petrol gauge which is something very unusual on a motorbike. Also it has a gear indicator so you always know which gear you’re in. The only thing I don’t like is that the gears can be changed either with the toes or the heels, the heel lever just gets in the way. I do like the fact that it has an electric start and a kick start, it’s always good to have the kick start as back up.

It’s getting a bit happier doing 40mph now and when it is fully ridden in it will do a monstrous 56mph!! But seeing as I just want it to get me from Glos to Cheltie and vice versa 56mph will do fine. Moomin rides on the back with me which is one reason I wanted the top box (to stop her falling off the back, motherly neuroticism there I think). I also bought a belt with handles on for her to hold onto me, this means I can’t actually feel her on the back so she pokes me every now and again to put my mind at rest. All in all we both like this bike very much. Nothing has rusted on it yet, it’s big enough for people to see and the light is bright enough too. If you want a bike that will get you from A-B and don’t need to be a speed demon then I highly recommend this bike. The closest Japanese bike would be the Honda CG125 which is about £2,000 on the road. It may go a little faster, but it is only a little faster.

Books, TV, Fillum and Music.

I am excited to say that I have just purchased Jeremy Clarkson’s ‘The World According To Clarkson’ in a Penguin Classic cover, it’s an odd thing to see. I shan’t be reading it (again) for a while as I have masses of reading to do in a very short time, my first OU assignment is due on the 5th October and I haven’t read anywhere near enough!

Also I have just watched ‘Stuart: A Life Backwards’ and I loved it. We had a locum pharmacist in at work the other day and she questioned why our addicts became addicts, why they put themselves in such a dismal position and live in such depravity. I said that a lot of them were in an even worse place beforehand and this program showed this brilliantly. For some it’s almost as if heroin addiction is part of the healing process as the addict will be more likely to get the sort of help they need, whereas someone who is just ‘bonkers’ can easily slip through the net. I wish I could ask our addicts why they started but I can’t, I can only find out if they offer this information to me. When they do it’s eye opening.

A couple of days ago I watched ‘Reign Over Me’ with Adam Sandler taking the lead. He was a dentist with a beautiful family and everything to live for. Then 9/11 happens and his wife, three daughters and dog are on one of the planes that crashes into the Twin Towers. He gives up dentistry and becomes a drummer in a band who re-models his kitchen every few months. People who don’t really know him think he’s crazy, but it is just his way of handling the grief he feels for losing his whole family in such a terrible way. Don Cheadle plays the ’straight’ man as Sandlers ex college room mate who helps him let his feelings out. I loved this film because it makes you understand that people feel in different ways and hurt in different ways too. It was also nice to see the male emotions coming out.

Watching this film made me want to listen to Quadrophenia again (as the final track ‘Reign o’ Me’ was the song on the end credits) and Pete Townsend really had it sussed then. He’ll always be a very bizarre man, but he got teenage angst spot on with this album. Classic.

Open University

Well my first set of materials came yesterday. A Certificate In The Humanities is what I shall be studying and I have to say that it looks lots of fun. But, stupidly I decided to look a the assignment booklet, why do I always do that?? You look at assignments for something you haven’t learnt yet and think, ‘Jesus, I’ll never be able to do that!’ but by the time you get there it’s fine. I am worried that I might not have enough time to do it though as I am still working 6 days a week for the foreseeable future. Meh! I’ll just have to take my books into work with me, my boss should be glad that he has such cultured staff hehe.

Tired…

Tired of not having water, but thankfully it should be back on tomorrow for flushing and bathing use. Billy just told me that he is having a bath in a min, but I have to wait. When tomorrow comes and I hear that sound of cisterns filling up I shall be in the bath like a shot and stay in it for some time… although not too long as the water will still be a bit dodgy.

In other news I got the preparatory material for my OU course. I am really looking forward to this as my sister is doing it too. This means competition which in turn means that we will be doing good work (hopefully). At work my boss is on holiday and I feel like I’m running the place, which I suppose is good training for when I do actually run the place. Having just one day off a week is very draining though, I wanted a lie in yesterday but also didn’t want to waste the day. What is a young girl to do? Well, I stayed in bed till 9.30, that’s what I did!

I have to go shopping on Wednesday as I have a pirate party to go to on Saturday. It’s meant to be on a boat but there still may be a chance that the water is too high so it may be moved to a pub nearby. I have decided to use the dresses I made for re-enactment as the costume as they are wenchy/pirate type dresses. I need to add stripy tights, bandanna, big earrings, eye patch and cutlass to this equation.

Last night I watched Hairspray and I have to say I loved it and smiled all the way through. Gonna watch the last episode of Jekyll in a minute, I am sure there will be less smiling whilst watching that.

*Edit* I watched the last episode of Jekyll and I did actually smile. It was very good, a tad OTT at times but overall a very enjoyable series. I’m glad I watched the whole thing.

Bubbles and races

Us Brits. Not the most sociable of people most of the time. You sit at a bus stop or stand in a queue and everyone’s in their own little bubble. But sometimes someone breaks through the wall of the bubble and comes into your world. Sometimes that person is more likely care in the community, but sometimes, just sometimes you get a nugget of gold. I had that today at my daughter’s sport’s day. I was sat next to a lady of an older generation (it turned out that she was 76 but she looked no older than 55) and she was a talker. It was good though as she had some great tales to tell, whether they were true or not is beside the point, she was interesting. She told me of how she did the javelin when she was 13, took in needy children when she was 18, looked after her mum throughout her life and battled with the local council in her 70’s. She told me all about her kids and her grand kids, one of which she had come to see do his stuff on the field. It made what could have been a day of a lot of waiting go by so much faster. Still don’t know the woman’s name though! And when it was Maisie’s go to race she cheered her along.

Sometimes it’s best to keep inside your little bubble as there are nutcases out there. Sometimes it’s nice to burst it and let people in as you can learn and have a very interesting time. And I know you need to know, Maisie came 2nd in the 50 meters sprint and in the obstacle course but she came 1st in the 50 meters skip! Well done Maisie and thank you to the woman who told great stories.
